Hosts offering free or discounted emergency stays through Airbnb.org provide relief to people forced to flee their homes due to humanitarian crises. For example, hosts can support a family evacuating due to a wildfire, a refugee making a life-saving journey, or a first responder deploying in the wake of a hurricane.

Signing up to host with Airbnb.org

To sign up, visit Airbnb.org and click or tap Start hosting. After signing up, hosts will receive an Airbnb.org Supporter badge on their profiles.

Create a new listing or select an existing one

You can create a new listing or choose an existing one to offer for free or at a discount. Listings that are eligible for emergency stays include entire homes and apartments, as well as private or shared rooms.

Listings created exclusively for Airbnb.org guests do not show up for leisure or business travelers in Airbnb search results. These listings will be labeled under Listing details as Only available for Airbnb.org stays.

Handling booking requests

Hosts may receive reservation requests directly from potential Airbnb.org guests or from nonprofit partners of Airbnb.org approved to book on behalf of impacted guests.

These partners will book on behalf of the guest and act as a point of contact between the guest and the host. They communicate reservation details, house rules, and instructions to guests and may assist them throughout the stay with additional services.

Guests’ eligibility may be reviewed by Airbnb.org, its nonprofit partners, referral organizations, or service providers.

Airbnb.org booking inquiries will be labeled as This inquiry is from an Airbnb.org guest in messages.

Pricing Airbnb.org emergency stays

You may offer your listing for free to support people in times of crisis, or you may choose to offer your place at a discount.

Here’s what you need to know about setting your Airbnb.org rate:

• Set your price as low as possible to help stretch nonprofit funds and help house more people evacuating crises
• You’ll still receive your cleaning fee if you’re charging a nightly rate, but listings offered for free cannot collect cleaning fees
• Taxes apply, as always
• Airbnb waives host and guest service fees for all Airbnb.org stays
• Smart pricing and other discounts are not applied

Getting protected through AirCover

AirCover for hosts is top-to-bottom protection that provides up to $3 million USD in damage protection and $1 million USD in liability insurance. It’s always included and always free whenever you host. Host damage protection, a part of AirCover, provides hosts with $3 million USD in coverage in the rare event your place or belongings are damaged by a guest during a stay. Host liability insurance, also a part of AirCover, provides hosts with $1 million USD in coverage in the rare event you are found legally responsible for a guest getting hurt or their belongings being damaged or stolen while they’re staying at your place.

Managing your calendar

Your listing will have the same calendar for both Airbnb and Airbnb.org stays. That means if it’s been booked by Airbnb guests, it won’t be available for Airbnb.org guests on those dates and vice versa.

If you have created a new listing through Airbnb.org, then dates will only be available to Airbnb.org guests and are not searchable by Airbnb guests.

Tax deductibility

For stays: It's not possible for Airbnb.org to provide charitable donation tax receipts for hosting emergency stays at this time. Tax regulations vary by country. Please review your local tax regulations or consult with a tax advisor to understand what deductions you may be eligible for.

For donations: Donations to Airbnb.org are tax deductible in the US to the extent permitted by law. Donations do not qualify for UK Gift Aid and are not tax deductible in the EU. Please check your local tax laws.
