There is a charge of $20.00 a night for children older than 6 months, a free porta-cot (including mattress and bedding) is available on request. Each site is convenated by QEII National Trust who describe Mahakirau "outstanding for it's ecology and wildlife value with brown kiwi, kaka, Hochsetetter's and Archey's frogs all present".
