Birdwatching for Beginners in Beautiful West Sonoma County
No binoculars? No problem! We've got you covered with quality binoculars and a high-powered spotting scope to bring those birds up close! We want to help beginners get out and appreciate the bird world. Don't be shy if you've never birded before - that's what we're here for! (All experience levels are welcome though.) You'll meet us for a slow meander along Sonoma County's bucolic West County Regional Trail in Sebastopol. There, we'll look at, listen to, and identify a variety of songbirds, woodpeckers, raptors, and much more. Time allowing, we’ll walk 1 mile to a water treatment pond for a chance to see some duck species before birding our way back (a flat, paved 2-mile roundtrip). We’ll send you home with a paper checklist of the species we observed throughout our walk. And, if you're on eBird, we will share the day's checklist with you. We guarantee you'll leave with an increased appreciation of the bird life that surrounds us! If there are any specific birding skills you'd like to focus on improving (visual ID, birding by ear, etc.), let us know and we'll be happy to tailor the walk to your interests. If you don’t see a time that fits your schedule, or if you're a group larger than 6, contact us and we’ll try to accommodate you! PLEASE NOTE: There are no restrooms at this location.
Private Pottery Wheel Lesson
After being introduced to the space and to each other, I will provide a quick demonstration on the wheel with a small amount of clay. Afterwards, each guest will be allowed time to create a piece on the wheel from beginning to end with personal instruction and assistance from me. Guests are welcome to make anything they would like to on the wheel! Cup, bowl, vase, dish, etc. (Please Read)The firing of pottery is a long process that is separate from the time we spend on the wheel. Each piece requires a two day long firing process in a kiln, and I hand glaze each piece. I offer kiln services out of my personal studio if you have interest in having your piece fired for a *small fee that is not due the day of the experience.* I do not include this in the price of the experience because some guests do not wish to keep their piece. Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting some clay on. Clay will wash out, but you may not want to go out right after. The time noted on the experience, 2 hours, is generally descriptive of a 2 person experience which encompasses the majority of my bookings. In general, the experience is 1 hour per person. If there are 3 or 4 people in the booking, likely the experience will extend the 2 hour session time, and if there is 1 person in the booking it will be closer to an hour.
Bake Bread, Create Cheese, Flip Omelets
In this super-charged BRUNCH class, I’ll teach you how to make an easy homemade sourdough bread from scratch without the hassle of a sourdough starter. You will enjoy this bread several ways for brunch alongside other dishes. Besides the bread, we’ll also make fresh ricotta cheese, tartines, and perfect French omelets—made with Petaluma’s famous eggs. The experience will be hands-on and you will learn some valuable cooking skills and tips in this robust class—and at the end of the class you’ll get to take home the loaf of bread you baked, to enjoy later as a delicious souvenir. This is a great class for beginners, or intermediate bakers, as well as for people who want to learn many general cooking tips, and who want to enjoy a delicious 4-course brunch with a complimentary glass of California bubbly. This is not a class for people who want to make sourdough bread with a starter. This IS an experience for someone who is hungry for both knowledge and great food. Based on requests, I started hosting shorter-versions of this experience as well! Please click on my profile photo to check out all the Experiences I host. The bread has alcohol in it. We have two small dogs who are quite friendly.
Vegan picnic with rescued animals
We'll start with a tour of the sanctuary where you'll meet a variety of rescued farm animals. We'll share their stories of resilience and healing and talk a bit more about the industries they come from. You'll love meeting our animal ambassadors and may be surprised at what you learn, since we so rarely see the animals in our food system. Join us afterwards at our picnic tables in the field for a glass of local wine and a vegan cheese and charcuterie platter. (Note: The platter contains nuts and gluten unless otherwise requested. Please inform us of any allergies when you make your booking so we can be sure to provide suitable options. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.) The Experience will last approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Please be mindful that as a sanctuary for rescued animals, our priority is the physical and emotional well being of the rescued animals who call Charlie's Acres home. Our loved animal residents are completely free and always have a choice as to whether or not they want to interact with visitors. They will reside at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives, where we'll have the honor of taking care of them. Bohemian Redwoods Hike
A visit to our own private redwood grove. Locked away in a private family trust for over one hundred years and located on the grounds of a private camp from the 1800s, sits the Bohemian Redwoods. This special property is located not far off the Bohemian highway in west Sonoma near the Russian river at the border of Camp Meeker and Monte Rio. Our property is adjacent to over 500 acres of redwoods donated to the county of Sonoma in 2020. You will have the unique opportunity to chill on our property, featuring acres of redwoods, hear a little history, and then access a 2 mile hiking loop onto Sonoma County Park land, directly adjacent to our land. This is a once in a lifetime venue, adjacent to world class hiking. Hiking is medium challenge - some relatively steep and windy climbs, but definitely doable for a beginner or first timer.

Enjoy Private Chef Dave in Sonoma
Take advantage of our group discounts! ★ 10% OFF — groups from 4 to 5 guests ★ 15% OFF — from 6 guests My kitchen experience is formed around the experience of being Puro Californio, my indigenous ancestors go back before the Spaniards arrived, and the European side sailed from France to settle Sonoma in the 1850s. Those roots run deep in ancestry and attitude. My palate reflects that and draws from Americana, Regional Mexican, Mediterranean, Moroccan, and even aspects of Vietnamese. The West Coast experience is in my blood, and the purest expression of that for me is via the plate and pen. I also have a gritty, sentimental side that I pour onto each preparation. I will arrive before your dining time to begin working my magic. Not only that, but I will show up at your doorstep equipped with every ingredient needed to prepare your meal. Feel free to put your apron on and cook some dishes with me! I am eager to share with you the secrets behind my recipes and local hidden treasures.
