My favorite local park for Florida nature. I always bring out of town guests here to see their first alligator.

This Hillsborough County park is a great Florida experience. There is a long boardwalk to travel through natural habitat while looking for gators, snakes, and turtles. The observation tower is great to get a bird's eye view of the river and surrounding area. I believe there is a small fee (3-5 dollars) at the gate. They also rent canoes here if that is on your bucket list. Don't fall in...the gators are pretty large in this area ;)

6920 E Fletcher Ave, Tampa, FL 33637-0930 Lettuce Lake Park opened in 1982 and quickly became a hub of activities. The 240-acre site offers something for everyone. Wooded picnic areas and a playground are family favorites. A 1.25 mile bicycle path/jogging trail, complete with a fitness course, meander through the park. Lettuce Lake is also a haven to study nature. An interpretive center, featuring exhibits, leads to a 3,500-foot boardwalk and an observation tower where visitors can view an extensive variety of wildlife. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent to visitors to experience a wholenew side of the Park.

An elevated boardwalk keeps you dry as you walk through the native habitat of dozens of bird species. You'll almost certainly see an alligator or two.
